Coolum surfer changes her focus

THE future is looking very bright for young Coolum surfer Isabella Nichols.

After success in 2011, with wins at the Rip Curl Grom Fest and the Ocean and Earth International, Nichols is back from a training camp at the exclusive Telo Island Lodge in Indonesia, with support from sponsor Hive Swimwear.

Nichols was delighted with the experience and her results and was trying hard not to let the pressure of competition get to her.

"I do understand surfing has a degree of luck with the waves, but at the same time my coaches are training me to focus on things that I can control and not the outcome of winning," she said.

This week Nichols competes against the best Coast surfers in her age group in the regional titles at Coolum.

"I will do my best at the regionals. I am fit and surfing well after my recent travel to Indonesia," she said.
