Irwins invite us along to star unveiling

GRAB your khakis and book the next flight to Los Angeles as the Irwins have issued an open invite to watch history in the making.

Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin said they were "beyond excited” with the announcement that the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin would receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The couple's daughter Bindi said she encouraged the whole of the Coast to join them at the official unveiling ceremony on April 26 at Hollywood Boulevard.

"If you're from the Sunshine Coast come with us. Come join us in Hollywood it will be great,” she said.

"It does feel like a big family and anyone who is there on April 26 is welcome to come check it out and see what a great event and honour this is.”

Terri even admitted she had encouraged students to "wag school” to come along to the event.

"I have had students be like 'oh no I'm at uni, I don't know if I should' and I said just come,” she said.

"We've got people from all over the world that are planning on attending. It's fantastic.”

Terri also paid special thanks to the people who were fundamental in securing a star for Steve.

"It's really a culmination of work from a lot of people who believed that Steve should just totally get this recognition,” she said.

"We appreciate Visit Sunshine Coast's help sponsoring the star and Russell Crowe wrote a letter of recommendation.”

Terri said she thought Steve would have been "stoked” that an animal conservationist would be among the stars on the infamous glitter strip.

"I think it's kind of sweet that the location of the star on Hollywood is in front of the Iguana Vintage Clothing Shop,” she said.

"I think he (Steve) would have thought it was really cool for his message and that it's a tremendous promotion of the message of conservation.”
