Ironman laughs off talk of rings

SPORTING power couple Matt Poole and Candice Falzon have quashed the latest engagement rumours.

The well-known Mooloolaba ironman and his ironwoman girlfriend have been a hot item since early this year and their public displays of affection set tongues wagging among spectators at a recent Red Bull X-Fighters event in Sydney.

"The couple looked very much in love, so much so that it was all the talk in the VIP area," one attendant said.

"Rumours on the day and since have been circulating that the couple are newly engaged and that he popped the question recently."

But Matt was genuinely surprised when asked if he had gone down on bended knee.

"What?! No, that's news to me," he said.

"Things are definitely going very well between the two of us, but we are taking things slowly. There are no rings getting pulled out, sorry to disappoint you there."

Matt said they had been enjoying spending time together between training and competition.

While he suggested Candice was considering a move to the Sunshine Coast, the notoriously private gentleman would not be drawn on when we might see the bronzed beauty on our shores.

Candice and Matt will be stepping out on the Coast together next month as ambassadors for the Breast Cancer Foundation's series of Pink Tris, which begins in Mooloolaba on October 16 and continues on to Perth, Sydney and the Gold Coast.
