World flights on cards for 2016: Wellcamp airport GM

INTERNATIONAL passenger flights from Wellcamp airport could be taking off before the end of the year.

Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport general manager Phil Gregory said talks were under way with Cathay Pacific Airlines to provide international passenger flights from the Toowoomba airport.

They would likely be to Hong Kong, which Cathay Pacific flew to from Toowoomba carrying freight last year.

"(An international passenger flight) is very much on the cards," Mr Gregory said at the airport today.

"The exact date is not yet set, we are confident that we will do international flights probably by the second half of this year."

Mr Gregory was speaking at the launch of the QRamp, which will provide safer and more convenient access to aircraft.

He said he was thrilled that the airport could offer customers the 'QRamp experience'.

"Passengers will be able to board and disembark more quickly than if they were using the traditional stairs," he said.

"The QRamp is also more inclusive for elderly travellers and passengers with disabilities."

QantasLink CEOJohn Gissing said the airline continued to look at ways to improve customer experiences.

"I'm delighted that we're rolling out our newest ramp at Wellcamp Airport; we now have the QRamp deployed across the majority of our network and we are the only regional airline in Australia with this innovation," Mr Gissing said.

"Not only will it improve the experience by making it easier for all of our customers to board and disembark, it will also improve on time performance by making the boarding process quicker and easier.

"While all customers will be able to use the ramp, it will importantly benefit our customers with specific needs."

QantasLink currently operates 26 services a week between Toowoomba and Sydney.
