THE TWU has introduced a new insurance policy for its members called the Accident Journey Insurance.
The Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Act 2012, introduced by the O'Farrell Government and rushed through NSW Parliament in a matter of days, came into force in June 2012 and essentially gutted Workers Compensation rights for most workers across NSW.
Among other things, this legislation removed Workers Compensation entitlements for workers injured while travelling to and from their place of employment, other than in special circumstances.
In response to this draconian piece of legislation, the TWU's Rank-and-File Committee of Management arranged for Accident Journey Insurance for all financial TWU members.
This means that all financial TWU members - whether you are an employee or owner-driver - will be covered by a minimum weekly safety net if you are injured during the journey to or from work.
The Accident Journey Insurance does not directly replace previous Workers Compensation arrangements and it provides the following benefits:
Weekly Accident Benefit of up to 85% to a maximum of $2000 per week;
Weekly Accident Benefit to be available for up to 104 weeks; and
TWU members will not be required to use any of their leave entitlements other than the first 14 days following an injury.

Who is entitled to the TWU's Accident Journey Insurance?
To be entitled to the benefit of the TWU's Accident Journey Insurance policy, you must be a current financial member of the TWU in either NSW or the ACT.
