Indonesian consulates receive packages with white powder

INDONESIAN consulates in three capital cities were sent packages containing a white powder today, prompting fears of a chemical attack.

Australian Federal Police and hazardous materials teams responded to the incidents in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

The substances at consulates in Perth and Melbourne were deemed non-hazardous. The substance sent to the Sydney consulate was taken for further testing on Thursday.

It is understood fire trucks attended the scene in Melbourne after reports were made to police.
