Incredible aerial image of Mackay in 1947

AN AMAZING tool made available by the Queensland Government allows anyone with an internet connection the ability to see into Mackay's past.

Dubbed 'QImagery', the map based programme has access to a rich database of aerial photos from across Queensland.

Stretching back as far as 1947 for Mackay, south of the Pioneer River has the familiar streets we see today, while North Mackay is decidedly sparse.

To access the photos, you first need to search for a location, or even a specific address. Once found, press the 'search' button.

A long list of options will appear and from there you can choose what period of time you'd like to explore.
