Incident a timely reminder help is available

WHEN Dalby police received a concerning phone call from a member of the public early Thursday morning, they didn't hesitate to respond.

Thankfully, their actions in Thomas Jack Park on Drayton St saved a young man's life. He continues to recover in hospital.

A member of the public called police after the man, 19, was seen in the park and appeared distressed.

Officers responded and as the man spotted them, he put his mobile phone down and walked towards the road, barrelling down which was a road-train.

Police tried to speak with the man but were forced to tackle him to the ground and get him to safety before he was assessed by paramedics.

A Dalby police spokesman said the young man was taken to Dalby Hospital and was undergoing mental health checks, with medical staff providing appropriate care and treatment.

He said the officers had saved his life and, while the incident was not common, it was a reminder for people that help was available.

Phone Lifeline on 131114 or Beyondblue on 1300224636 if you need help.
