‘I do’ will put Whitsundays on television

IT'S the kind of promotion that is gold for a region - breakfast coverage on a national television program - and the Whitsundays has been fortunate to experience it twice in a matter of weeks.

Channel Seven's Sunrise program came to Airlie Beach for race week activities, and on Friday they will broadcast from Hamilton Island to cover a wedding.

It follows on from a competition in May which offered viewers the chance to win an all expenses paid wedding on the island, valued at $50,000.

The Tasmanian couple who won will say "I do" on the program on Friday morning.

Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited's Danial Rochford said it was massive exposure for the region.

"It just vindicates the significance of the Whitsundays as a tourism destination," Mr Rochford said.

"Promotions like this have region-wide significance, and it certainly is a very positive opportunity which will maximise opportunities for all operators."

He said it was timely.

"The (Airlie Beach) main street redevelopment is almost over and we've had great weather," he said. "Operators are seeing a significant increase in bookings."

The wedding will screen from 6am on Friday.
