A TRUCK fire on the Hume Motorway has caused major delays this afternoon.

According to the NSW Traffic Management Centre all southbound lanes of the Motorway have been diverted in Yerrinbool due to a truck fire.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and delay their trip with diversions now in place for light vehicles.

Southbound light vehicles are being diverted onto Avon Dam Road, then Lupton Road and the Old Hume Highway (Remembrance Driveway) to rejoin the motorway at Alpine.

This diversion is not suitable for heavy vehicles, which are being parked at the site. There is a bridge on the diversion route with a height restriction of 4.1 metres.

Emergency services are still at the scene working to put the fire out.

All northbound lanes of the motorway remain open.

Traffic is very heavy in the areas so motorists already in the area should allow plenty of extra travel time and expect delays.
