Humble tee packs a punch
IT MAY seem like little more than a humble t-shirt, but a new uniform worn by bartenders around town carries a message that packs a punch.
Staff at the Leagues, Country and Golf Clubs, along with the North Dalby Bowls Club, have joined forces to swap their usual uniform for a slogan-bearing t-shirt, as a part of a campaign to manage alcohol-fuelled violence over the festive season.
The campaign is an initiative of the Dalby Liquor Industry Action Group (LIAG) to which the four clubs belong.
Acting Senior Sergeant David Tierney from Dalby police works closely with LIAG and said they had been instrumental in curbing alcohol related violence in Dalby.
"When I first got to town, a lot of violence was happening,” Snr Sgt Tierney said
"We would easily have five or six a week, but then the pubs stepped up and introduced their code of conduct.
"Initiatives like this and the code of conduct have helped.”
He said the t-shirts are a conversation starter between patrons and bar staff around responsible drinking behaviour.
Golf Club bar manager Danni Lee said the t-shirts formed part of a bigger commitment to ensuring Dalby's clubs were safe drinking environments.
"Have a social drink and an outing but there's no need for the violence. Just go and enjoy yourselves,” she said.
Golf club bartender Bree Lee said the t-shirts communicated the responsibility of bar staff to ensure the safety of patrons.
"We don't want you to have a fight in our venue or anyone's venue in town because there are consequences,” she said.
