DAVID Goodluck had an easy answer to the question posed by Queensland Transport Association chief executive Gary Mahon about action needed to attract new drivers.

"Stop the persecution and over-regulation of drivers and maybe some of the older drivers will stay,” he said.

"Treat drivers as the professionals that they are. A bit of respect goes a long way. The media also needs to portray the good side of the industry as well as weeding out the bad elements in the job.”

Daniel Sleeves White suggested allowing passengers would help: "Not only just to spend that extra bit of time with the wife or the kids but giving young ones an opportunity to learn about the industry and want to be a part of it”.
