How to fix our crap trucking rest areas
NATROAD called for the government to solve the problem of inadequate Heavy Vehicle Rest Areas, but some pointed out the rest areas aren't the issue.
Keith Morrell said the amenities and services they needed were in every town already.
"We just can't park there,” he said.
"Make secure truck-only parking available in every town, problem solved.
"If the public and government are really concerned about the safety of heavy vehicles on the roads, it's a no-brainer and shouldn't be an issue.”
Warren Gavin wanted the "powers that be” to look in the Northern Territory and the top of Western Australia.
"Parking areas are made to suit caravans and motorhomes with toilets and undercover tables and seats with signs at the entrance to them, saying no trucks. A dirt patch up the road is what truck drivers get.”
Christopher Killen called it a joke.
"Local councils can't wait to put up no standing signs in front of every eating facility in the towns to keep trucks away.”
