IT MIGHT not evoke images of movie glamour but Ipswich's iconic City View Hotel has been used as a location for a film shoot.

Other Ipswich locations during the three-week shoot include Network Video at Winston Glades, Hilda's House and the Lime Five Nine Cafe. It's not often that big-time southern actors come to Ipswich to make a low-budget movie.

That's exactly what happened this month when Radek Jonak and Jay Anthony Franke strolled into the city to film One June Afternoon.

Jonak is a highly sought-after Sydney actor who has appeared in TV shows Home and Away, McLeod's Daughters and All Saints.

The Ipswich movie is his third film, after Vulnerable and the blockbuster Red Dog.

He has never before ventured to Ipswich, or Brisbane.

"I got chatting with Sarah (the producer) through my agent, and I liked the script," he said. "Ipswich is very quiet, like a country town."

Jonak plays Mark, a complex character who the actor thinks may come across as a bad guy.

When he's not employed as an actor, Jonak earns a living as a personal trainer.

"I've also worked as a carpet layer and chef," he said.

"I don't think you ever get into acting to make money.

"It's nice to be working but it's not constant enough."

One June Afternoon writer Sarah Dinsey said filming in Ipswich and Toowoomba was running smoothly and to schedule.

"We finish shooting on Sunday - we've had the time of our lives," she said.

"Radek flies out on Thursday. Even though he was only here for 10 days, he feels like family and we are really going to miss having him on set each day."

Jay Anthony Franke, the bar owner Danny in the film, has had roles in TV shows California Dreams and Married with Children.
