Hinterland Poetry Trail set to open

THE final event of the Sunshine Coast 50th anniversary celebrations will be the opening of the new Hinterland Poetry Trail.

Cr Jenny McKay will open the attraction on Thursday, December 14.

A '60s-style morning tea will be served to invited guests at Pattemore House, which is at the start of the Maleny Heritage Walk, with its sculptures and poetry now in place. This is the culmination of the three years' work by the Pente Poets of the Sunshine Coast.

Over the following days, two other launches will be held to mark the opening of the other poetry walks: one at Montville's Russell Family Park, where invited guests will hear the story of the park and Montville area and see the artist's panels in the gardens, depicting its history and ambience.

The third launch will be open to the public on Saturday, December 16, at 11am at Little Yabba Creek, Kenilworth, where a Family Fun Day is planned on the celebrations theme of "Timber to Tourism”.

Santa will be making an appearance, and the children will have a chance to meet the Poeticats and have free face-painting, as well as games.

A poetry-inscribed buttress root of brushed aluminium will be the centrepiece.

The Hinterland Poetry Trail sites will be open to everyone seven days a week - a permanent, free exhibition of art and poetry.

Brochures and maps are available at the sites, and readings by the poets can be accessed by smart phone via the QR codes or Sunshine Coast Council free app.
