Will Derryn Hinch spice up our crime forum?

A MEETING between Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie and shock jock Derryn Hinch may stir up discussion at a crime forum on the Sunshine Coast tomorrow.

Mr Bleijie and Mr Hinch are due to meet today.

The public forum, part of State Parliament's Crime Inquiry, will be held at Mooloolaba Surf Club from 10.45am.

"We want to hear from residents to discuss ways of preventing and reducing criminal activity across the state and right here in our own backyard,'' Mr Bleijie said.

"This public hearing is a way for local residents to listen to the issues raised and provide input based on their own experiences."

Mr Hinch is expected to urge Mr Bleijie to support a public register of sex offenders.

He wants Queensland to become the first state to implement a register similar to those which exist in the US.

He will present Mr Bleijie with a petition of almost 150,000 signatures from people supporting the push.

Mr Hinch has served three prison terms for naming sex offenders.

People who want to attend tomorrow's forum should call 3406 7307 to reserve a spot.
