DERRYN Hinch believes Queensland is primed to become the first Australian state to introduce a US-style public sex offender register, and reckons Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie is the man who can push it through.

Mr Bleijie will meet the Human Headline tomorrow to discuss the possible implementation of a public sex offender register in Queensland, a plan which could have all convicted sex offenders in the state named and shamed.

Over the decades, outspoken journalist Mr Hinch has served three prison stints for naming sex offenders and disclosing their crimes.

Last September, he started an online petition calling for state, federal and territory governments to introduce public sex offender registers, modelled on those that exist in the United States. The petition has been signed by more than 149,000 people.

Mr Hinch said he was looking forward to meeting with Mr Bleijie, who appeared receptive to the idea.

"We want the state, federal and territory governments to get together by the end of this year and formulate a national law and national access," Mr Hinch said.
