High tech drone proposal wins heart
A DRONE, an engagement ring and award-winning garden were the perfect combination, despite a few glitches, for Adrian Dinsmore and his now-fiance Ana Jimenez.
Mr Dinsmore had hatched a plan to propose to girlfriend of two years Ana in a different way so it would be a complete surprise.
With the use of a drone in mind, he went to YouTube for some ideas before getting permission from Kevin and Dianna Drew to use their Highfields garden, which was open to the public during Carnival of Flowers, as the backdrop.
Mr Dinsmore planned to propose to Ana on a Wednesday last month and used the Monday as a test run, which went smoothly.
"Wednesday, mid-afternoon we went out there and went to the spot where I had planned to do it," Mr Dinsmore said.
"When I looked up for the drone it wasn't there, it had malfunctioned, I had a message on my phone saying we had to abort."
Mr Dinsmore went home disappointed that day after finally psyching himself up for the big question and now having to come up with a way to get Ana back to the garden the next day without her becoming suspicious.
"Basically I told her that my dad wanted to look at the garden and he wanted to look at the garden as a family," Mr Dinsmore said.
"Mum and dad were in on it. I said to my mum to call me and say they were running late on loud speaker in the car."
With Ana none the wiser and two bus loads of people now at the garden, Mr Dinsmore again took her to place of the proposal.
"The drone was flying up above for quite a while, it felt like a long time, as it was near Ana commented that it was hovering around us and looked like it was recording," Mr Dinsmore said.
The drone lowered and Mr Dinsmore grabbed the ring which was hanging from it in a fabric pouch.
"Ana was saying 'are you suppose to touch that'," he said.
"I started my little speech, said everything I wanted to say and I took the ring box out of the pouch and she was completely shocked and started crying.
"She said yes after a long five seconds and everyone who was there gave us a hug and everyone wanted a photo."
The couple now have special memories of the day as well as video capturing the special moment. They plan to get married in early 2018.
