Celebration for new Soroptimist branch in Ipswich
WONDERFUL musical interludes provided by a quintet from Ipswich Girls' Grammar School set the atmosphere for a delightful high tea held by members of Soroptimist International.
This was the first event organised by local members of the International Women's Service Club, which is in the process of developing a branch in Ipswich.
Guests were delighted by the rainforest setting in the library at the University of Queensland Ipswich campus and the delicious food on offer at the event on Sunday.
Maree Lubach, immediate past president of the region of south Queensland, was pleased with the way the new members worked together to create a wonderful function.
Soroptimists from six south Queensland clubs also attended the celebration to show their support.
Project officer May Lamont spoke at the event and was impressed with the development of the branch.
"Congratulations to the core members of the new Soroptimist International club being developed in Ipswich," Ms Lamont said.
"This very professional event augurs well for the future of the club and the important work for women in which they will be involved, particularly in the Ipswich area."
Soroptimists focus on empowerment, education and enabling of women and girls in local and global communities.
In Ipswich, meetings for the new club are being held at the Humanities Building, 56 South St Ipswich, on the first and third Thursday of the month, at 7pm.
Women are invited to come along and meet over supper.
