The Office in Toowoomba, where it's okay to drink
THE city's newest bar is just weeks away from opening in the CBD.
The two-storey establishment, which will feature the activation of an alleyway and terrace views, is on track to open in the last week of this month.
Young Toowoomba businessmen Kenneth Wagner and Michael Hay are bankrolling the project which will be named The Office.
The pair has been working with Aspect Architects on the design of the bar.
Mr Wagner said construction was on track and on budget.
He is hoping the alleyway component of the bar will make it a trendy place to visit.
"It's going look a bit different to the traditional look that the CBD currently houses," he said.
"It's very modern and the alleyway brings a contemporary aspect to the establishment.
"The upstairs bar is very open and it's something similar to what the capital cities are offering."
Heavy steel features and concrete in the bar will give it an industrial feel.
The staircase linking the two levels is made of one solid piece of fabricated steel.
Mr Hay said it would be a talking point at the bar.
The business is the latest in a series of new companies and developments in the central area of the CBD.
The Grand Central redevelopment is a noticeable neighbour of the Duggan St bar and patrons will get one of the best views in town of construction at the site.
Nearby Aspect Architects will build the multi-million dollar Walton Stores project which will be located between Ruthven, Union and Annand Sts.
Toowoomba Regional Council has declared a Priority Development Area for the Toowoomba Railway Parklands just down the road in the hope of ramping up investment and development.
Mr Hay said the business was one of many hoping to activate the CBD.
"Council's vision is to try and utilise spaces in the CBD and to start getting more multi-use happening.
"We're definitely one of those businesses and we're hoping that a few other people will follow suit and get it moving as well."
The bar's owners are working with council to change the loading zone on Duggan St into a mixed-use taxi zone.
