Heart-warming donation helps bonding with premature babies

NEW parents will now be able to stay close to their premature babies thanks to Ipswich Hospital's new Kanmed Baby Warmer.

The piece of equipment, worth more than $6000, contains a heated mattress which allows premature babies to be removed from an incubator at an early stage while maintaining their temperature

The baby warmer was donated to Ipswich Hospital by children's charity, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia.

"This bed allows parents access to their child so that the parent-child bonding experience can continue unimpeded," Hitachi branch manager James Craig said.

"It's great to help the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and our local hospitals.

"I have to say it looks very comfortable."

Two-day-old Sofia Rose certainly gave her seal of approval to the new Kanmed Baby Warmer, falling asleep just seconds after her mother, Devora Argueta, placed her inside.

"Hitachi's continued support to families in these communities means children have access to medical equipment that is very much needed," Humpty Dumpty Foundation Founder and Chairman Paul Francis OAM said.

Since the establishment of the children's charity in 1996, the Humpty Dumpty Foundation has raised more than $45 million used to donate vital medical equipment like Ipswich Hospital's new baby warmer.

Locals, community organisations and businesses interested in supporting their local hospitals by donating a piece of medical equipment can visit http://www.humpty.com.au for more information.
