Health and Well-being Expo to address rural isolation
ISOLATION of women in rural areas is a "hidden problem” that one woman from Stanthorpe wants to address.
Share the Dignity 'shero' for the Stanthorpe area, Kylie Hibberd, is organising a Health and Well-being Expo at Weeroona Park on September 2 to help address the issue.
Share the Dignity is a charity that aims to make feminine hygiene products more accessible to women.
"In the regional and semi-regional areas like us, we are more focused on reducing isolation of women,” Ms Hibberd said.
"(We want to) offer support groups for those that may be looking for one but don't know where to start looking... and create a positive community vibe.
"It's all about getting people to come and try out these activities... and if we can collect donations to support local women that would be fantastic.”
The expo will offer a range of different free and gold- coin donation activities including a yoga class and CPR demonstrations.
"I currently have 45 stalls booked in, I am looking at another 20 or 30 to come,” Ms Hibberd said.
Information groups like the Australian Breastfeeding Association will offer private talks on the day and Ms Hibberd said the Stanthorpe Permaculture Group and Australian Vinegar would take talks on healthy living.
Driver education training facility Prepared for Life will also be involved.
"They will be coming to show people in general how to change a tyre and how to drive safely,” Ms Hibberd said.
The event is made possible by Community Development Services and the Department of Communities.
The expo will serve as a drop-off and collection point for feminine hygiene products and the day will also mark the start of It's In the Bag charity run which encourages people to donate essential products like soap and shampoo.
Collection points for donations: Print and Copy and Maddie's Gift Gallery.
