Hayden masters his 'mature' fans

THERE were plenty of single women getting around Caloundra yesterday, and they had eyes for only one man.

Cleo Bachelor of the Year and Master Chef favourite Hayden Quinn was the star attraction at a ladies day at Bunnings' Caloundra store.

About 100 women attended the event to make the most of product demonstrations, displays and a lunch cooked by the kitchen whiz.

They were also keen to chat to the handsome 25-year-old, but not necessarily about cooking.

"There were a lot of ladies telling me how they were now single and didn't have partners and husbands," he said over the phone with the hint of a smile in his voice.

"I think they were all joking.

"They were all of a greater vintage than I would normally be looking for."

The good-natured former lifeguard laughed a little when asked about the impact that being named Australia's No.1 bachelor had on his life.

"It was the 25th year of the Cleo Bachelor of the Year and I was up with some really great guys, so it was an honour," he said.

"But I like to keep a pretty level head. I'm a pretty normal person."

He said he was as happy to cook at a men's day out as a women's day.

"I don't discriminate," he said.

Hayden cooked a Mexican tortilla for lunch, similar to a recipe on his website.

He said he enjoyed his brief trip to the Sunshine Coast from Sydney, but he had been too busy over the barbecue all day to pick up any handyman tips.

He said he could hang a picture if required but was better in the kitchen than a workshop.

"Even though my Dad's a carpenter, I'm not that hand with the tools," he said. Sorry, girls, nobody's perfect.
