Have your say on industry future

TRUCKING Australia 2013 will be held at Hamilton Island on June 21-22.

This new event from the Australian Trucking Association is your chance to make a difference to the industry's future, have your say and get results from your ideas.

There won't be lectures from politicians or public servants. Whether you own one truck or manage a fleet, you'll get to contribute your views and share your experiences.

You'll help build a new safety action plan for the industry, based on your experience of what really works on the road.

Everyone knows good people who have left the industry. You'll have your say on what the industry needs to do to keep its drivers, recruit more women and young people, and provide training for the real world.

And you'll make a difference on how we deal with the massive tax increases coming down the highway. There aren't many trucking operators who could afford to pay an extra 6.9 cents per litre for fuel, but that's what you'll pay under the government's carbon tax from July next year, unless we take action.

Also at the event, you'll honour the winners of the 2013 National Trucking Industry Awards. They'll be announced at an awards dinner hosted by the ATA's Foundation Sponsors: NTI, Volvo and BP Australia.

The highlight of the evening is always the announcement of the National Professional Driver of the Year, a driver of exceptional skill and attitude. If you or someone you know fits the bill, keep an eye out - nominations open later this month.

Trucking Australia 2013 doesn't only have to be about work. It's a great opportunity to take a break with your partner, with plenty of free time, white beaches and the whole of the Great Barrier Reef to explore.

Golfers will admire the Hamilton Island Golf Course - on next door Dent Island, this 18 hole, par 71 course can be reached by ferry from the Hamilton Marina.

Why not bring the kids along too? With a host of family activities and a kids' club with qualified childcare, they'll barely have time to scratch the surface of what they can do - and you'll get some quality time with your partner.

Trucking Australia 2013 is very affordable - the full registration fee of $450 (incl GST) is less than half the price of previous ATA conventions. Four-star accommodation is available at a special event rate of only $270 per night (incl GST) and airfares to Hamilton Island are competitive.

Three delegates, though, will be fully hosted by Cummins South Pacific - and you could be one of them.

Each hosted delegate will receive:

One full delegate registration to Trucking Australia 2013;

Two nights' standard accommodation at the Hamilton Island Reef View Hotel;

One return economy airfare to Hamilton Island from any Australian capital city; and

One social ticket package for a guest (airfare not included).

The competition is open to all Australian trucking operators and their employees. To enter, let the ATA know in 100 words or less what you would bring to the table at Trucking Australia 2013, and how you would use the experience to improve the trucking industry.

One winner will be announced each month from January to March.
