Have you seen this portable truck library?
ON A quick trip to Melbourne, and the Peninsula, we were happy to catch up with Peter Vaughn, from Arthurs Seat.
He had just pulled over opposite the Portsea Jetty in company with the shy librarian, Laura, to open their "Mornington Peninsula Shire's” 2012 CF DAF articulated purpose built mobile library to the public.
"Thirty years ago I was the mechanic who used to fix the library trucks, and after a variety of careers, here I am finally driving one,” Peter said.
He added a lot of those years were spent in transport related jobs, and then six months ago this job came up, and he thought: "Why not? It looks like a great job, and something I would really enjoy doing, and it has proved as interesting as I had hoped it would be, and here I am doing it, and with no regrets at all”.
He said when he wasn't driving the library he drives the Red Hill Volunteer CFA fire truck, rebuilds 1970's cars and generally takes it easy.
He said he had only recently seen a copy of Big Rigs and was most impressed with it!
Laura said she loved the job, one day on the road a week and the rest of the time in the Rosebud Library.
Peter said she was a very skilled librarian, and may soon get her truck licence, as well as either a Mack, or a Daf hat.
