Gympie locals divided on Daylight Savings Time
WITH the warmer months now just around the corner, attention has once again focused on one of the most fiercely debated topics in Queensland - should we be using Daylight Savings Time?
For an issue that's been brought up year after the year, the response both on the Gympie Times website and the Facebook page is overwhelming.
This wasn't lost on some readers, who were unhappy with this "old humdinger” being brought up once again.
On Facebook, where nearly 100 comments were posted, two-thirds of the responses are strictly opposed to any changes to Queensland clocks.
Much of the concern stems from the impact it may have on rural and agricultural industries, particularly dairy farmers who would have to adjust their cows to the difference in daylight at morning and in the afternoons.
They're arguing what happens in Queensland isn't just what goes on in the South-East corner.
But for those who believe the state needs to get amongst the likes of New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT, the idea of enjoying another hour of daylight at the end of the day is an attractive idea.
YOUR SAY
"This time every year we waste time and energy arguing over this topic. Queenslanders already decided 'No'.”
Jasmine Blanckensee
"No, no, no. We country folk feed you city folk. Think about the other side.”
Jennifer Van Twest
"Yes, we ran a dairy farm and it doesn't matter. There are still the same amount of hours in a day. Yes, it does work when you have animals. You obviously haven't tried it.”
Lea Cripps
"The extra daylight will give families and kids the best chance to continue a healthy life in the outdoors to play, grow and socialise."

"No way! If people need more light, get up earlier!”
Jan Hasthorpe
"It would split Queensland. The only people who want it are on the South-East corner. Mackay is about half an hour East of the Brisbane line and wouldn't have the same advantage as South-East Queensland.”
