Grab a slice of hinterland life at Gheerulla Hall Country Fair
THE inaugural Gheerulla Hall Country Fair on Saturday, June 10, brings together all we cherish about the Sunshine Coast hinterland and rural living.
From 8am to 2pm, visitors can relax while listening to bush poetry from Ian Mackay and partaking of good coffee and homemade cake.
Then they might like to browse the second-hand books, buy a unique artisan piece of jewellery or art, rummage through the trash and treasure goods or bring some fabric to swap for a Boomerang Bag a la ABC-TV's War on Waste.
Other items for sale will include local produce, craft, soft furnishings, plants, collectables and hats.
The country fair is the most ambitious event undertaken in Gheerulla and showcases the artistic, produce and craft skills of hinterland residents to a wider audience from the Sunshine Coast to Gympie.
Originally established in 1907, the historic Gheerulla Hall marks the location of the original township, formerly known as Yahoo Creek.
The area was once thriving, but the hall is largely what remains of the original township.
In 2016, a group of residents got together and decided the hall was an asset worth revitalising and using again for community activities, information forums and social events.
The hall has been supported by Sunshine Coast Council with grants, State Member for Nicklin Peter Wellington and generous member donations.
Fund-raising events have helped co-ordinate repairs, maintenance and improvements.
Gheerulla Hall is on the corner of Eumundi-Kenilworth and Moy Pocket Rd.
New stallholders are welcome. Call Alana on 0427 599 097 or see the Gheerulla Hall Facebook page.
After visiting Gheerulla Hall Country Fair, continue on to Kenilworth for the annual Quilt and Craft Show in Kenilworth Hall.
