CYCLING: Jordan Kerby's gold medal performance at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games was not enough for the Hervey Bay product to maintain his place in the Australian Cycling Team.

Kerby won gold as part of the men's team pursuit, and was fourth in arguably the hottest individual pursuit field of all time.

He is one of four cyclists axed from the team, the changes of which were released with 800 days until the Tokyo Olympics.

Rebecca Wiasak (ACT), Rohan Wight (SA) and Nicholas Yallouris (NSW) were also axed.

The new additions are Kristina Clonan (QLD), Leigh Howard (VIC), and Macey Stewart (TAS), while more young athletes will be added to the new Podium Potential Track Academy later this year.

Cycling Australia's performance director Simon Jones said the organisation was in hot pursuit of Olympic gold.

"Our goal is as clear now as it was when I started,” Jones said. "Success at the Olympics in 2020 and 2024 is our goal, and we define 'success' as Olympic Gold. Our plan is all about continuing our focussed trajectory to Tokyo and beyond.

"An important element of the team's balance and make up is to ensure a consistent flow of talent enters into the performance program, and we look forward to welcoming new riders into the Australian Cycling Team later in the year.

"It is always difficult to make these tough decisions and it is stressful for all parties in these circumstances. Of course, we recognise and understand it is especially tough for the athlete.

"I want to take this opportunity to recognise the contribution these four athletes have made to the Team and wish them all the best going forward.

"We will ensure in the short term that they have a support network around them and readily accessible support via our Senior Personal Excellence Advisor Mark Gregory, who is there to guide elite athletes thought these complex transitions.”
