Gold medal for Warwick player in cup in Spain

HOCKEY: Warwick hockey player Adam Byrne has won a gold medal in over-35s hockey at the World Cup in Spain.

Byrne started at fullback in the final for Australia in a 1-0 win against England.

He was the team vice captain.

It was his first hockey trip to Europe after earlier playing for Queensland in New Zealand.

Byrne played well for Warwick in last year's home state championships to make Queensland and Australian teams.

Former Warwick junior Scott Reid is playing in the World Cup in the over-40s.
