Glee, Northern Star win easily in women's hockey

GLEE and Northern Star had strong wins in FNC A-grade women's hockey.

Glee downed Easts 4-0 and Star defeated Coraki 5-0.

Easts were without players on FNC Under-18 representative duty.

Glee opened the scoring when midfielder Kim Chappel gave a well-timed pass to Nic Hetherington, who drilled the ball into the net.

The Easts defence, led by Karen Eakin, repeatedly denied the Glee attack until a misdirected back pass was swooped on by Ash Danvers, who drew the goalkeeper to lay a neat square pass for her sister Nic Hetherington to put the ball into an open goal.

Glee added two second-half goals with a penalty corner conversion by Chappel and a solo effort from Danvers.

Karlie Healey had an outstanding game for Easts, working tirelessly in midfield.

Star notched five second-half goals against Coraki after a scoreless first half.

After containing the Star attack until half-time, the Coraki defence failed to maintain the intensity and Star capitalised with goals to Tracey Makings, Sam Peiti, Kate Marshall, Amanda Harmon and Tegan Elliott.
