Gladstone Rugby juniors match it with state's best

RUGBY UNION: The future talent pool of Gladstone rugby union is looking good with several juniors coming back from representative duties.

Malachi Tuakura has recently returned from a successful representative tour playing as a loose head prop.

Malachi had a whirlwind of representative duties that culminated with him playing on the hallowed turf of Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane.

"I was selected for the Queensland Country under-13s and played against Brisbane City and defeated them, 48-24," he said.

Other Queensland Country representative players from Gladstone were Trevor King under-13 and Jack Kentwell and Caleb Noovao in under-16s.

Gladstone Rugby Union is kicking off its junior season and looking for any interested players or parents to help with coaching, managing or trainers.

GRU life member and volunteer Amanda Ball said the club was looking for any interested youth to come try their hand at the sport.

The age groups are under-11, under-13, under-15 to under-17 and parents who might be able to help out with getting under-5 and under-9 up and running.
