Giant-killing Aussie wins through to International final

UNSEEDED Australian Astra Sharma will look to complete a dream 2017 Hutchinson Builders Toowoomba International week when she steps out for tomorrow's tournament final.

Sharma will face second seed Eir Hozumi from Japan in the championship decider at Toowoomba Regional Tennis Centre - USQ.

Twenty-two-year-old Sharma booked her final berth with a 6-3, 6-3 semi-final win today over Abigail Tere-Apisah from Papua New Guinea in 1hr 32mins.

Earlier, Hozumi ended the run Toowoomba International run of Australia's Ellen Perez with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Both matches were interrupted by brief rain stoppages.

Sharma has proved to be this year's tournament giant killer with her scalps this week including Brisbane QTC International winner Kimberley Birrell and tournament third seed Olivia Rogowska.

She progressed to the semi-final with a straight sets victory yesterday over Japanese number five seed Erika Sema.

Hozumi progressed with wins over Australian qualifier Kaylah McPhee (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) and Singapore's Stephanie Tan 6-1, 6-2 before cruising through today's match in less than an hour.
