SOUTH Sydney forward George Burgess is facing up to five weeks on the sideline for a shoulder charge on Broncos playmaker Anthony Milford on Friday night.

The NRL's match review committee slapped the Rabbitohs enforcer with the grade-two charge on Saturday afternoon, following the second-half incident in a controversial showdown at ANZ Stadium.

Given Burgess already has 60 carry-over points, he is looking at four weeks on the sideline with an early guilty plea, or five weeks if he fights the charge and is still found guilty.

The Rabbitohs have until midday on Monday to give their plea.

Milford said after the match that the hit from Burgess knocked him around even more than an earlier high tackle from George's brother, Sam Burgess.

The five-eighth had to be taken from the field for a HIA after the incident with Sam, but said he was actually feeling worse for wear after the shoulder charge in the second half.

Milford said the first-half concussion test also came as a surprise.

"I was (surprised)," he said about being taken from the field.

"The rules are in place for a reason and it's safety first. I was just doing what the medics were telling me to do.

"I was sweet. The one that rocked me more was from the other Burgess brother (George). But it was all good."

South Sydney was up in arms when Milford was taken for his HIA after he was allowed to first take the shot at a penalty goal just before halftime.

The Broncos clarified after, however, that while the trainer cleared Milford to play on following the initial tackle from Sam, it was the team doctor who made the call to pull him from the game after reviewing the footage.

An NRL spokesman said the incident would be looked at following the end of the round as part of the usual process in which the NRL review all HIAs from the weekend.
