Garbage truck fire causes M1 congestion

A GARBAGE truck has caught fire on the M1 motorway causing traffic congestion at on the Gold Coast.

Fire crews worked for about 20 minutes after they were called to the Oxenford blaze at 8.40am.

It is understood some paper in the back of the garbage truck had caught fire as it travelled northbound on the Pacific Motorway.

While the crash scene was cleared quickly police said the area is experiencing congestion.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated traffic incident, six people were rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital following a multi-vehicle crash in Southport.

The three vehicle crash happened on Musgrave Ave in Southport.

All patients were transported in a stable condition.
