HUNDREDS of parents and children's enjoyed a day in the sun for a cause on Saturday, at the Justice for Hemi Family Fun Day.

A free event was hosted by Shane Burke and Kerri-Ann Goodwin, parents of Hemi Burke who was killed by his babysitter on March 26 2015.

The Family Fun Day event aimed to raise awareness surrounding Hemi's case, put a stop to child abuse, and give families in Mackay a chance to do something fun and "put smiles on the kids faces”, Ms Goodwin said.

Caneland Park was filled with children's entertainment, rock climbing, jumping castles, live music, animals, free food and drinks for all to enjoy.

"The community has been amazing in helping us to try and get the word out about Hemi's case,” Ms Goodwin said. "This was our way of trying to give back to them in some way.

The couple said they would continue to work hard, with the help of the community, and hoped their actions would one day make a difference for another family.
