I WELCOME the commitment from the Labor Opposition to provide funding for the Upgrade of the Ipswich Motorway.

It is a fact though that rather than fixing congestion in the longer term it will induce even more traffic and congestion. We need to focus on more balanced solutions to the transport task apart from more of the same.

The double Ipswich railway line has the potential passenger carrying capacity of a 30 lane motorway!

It is amazing that our elected representatives do not put more effort into improving the train service frequency on this underutilised key transport infrastructure, and encouraging more people to abandon the gauntlet of tailgating trucks and 'rat-bag road ragers' and travel on safe transport modes.

Our local political representatives should be fighting for improved train service frequency, better bus connections and a better fare structure!

The SEQ fare review is well overdue now.
