'Funbags' bounce into use
THERE'S a new business in Mackay with a cheeky name that's just as fun as the product behind it.
Funbag.com.au is the brainchild of four friends - Chris and Emily Camilleri and Chris and Della Whearty - who, after a big night out, thought it might be fun to go into business together.
"We were sitting around one day and came up with the idea of bean bags with comfy foam," Mr Camilleri said.
"We thought it would work well in Mackay, being a product that would fit in, especially with the number of new homes being built."
Idle talk quickly became concentrated research as the two couples saw they had stumbled on to a niche industry not being met in Mackay.
"We have a fun product and we wanted a fun name," Mr Camilleri said.
"It's a little bit cheek, little bit fun. Some people get it and some people don't."
This all started 18 months ago, however the product has only been available for purchase in Mackay for the past four months.
"We started off telling family and friends," Mr Camilleri said.
The business' first public appearance was at this year's Home Show and Leisure Expo.
Mr Camilleri said he'd received feedback from visitors at the show who said it was the most interesting stand there.
"A lot of people showed interest," he said.
"We sold what our expected target was. We were happy with that."
The group has also displayed their wares at John Donnelly. All four work in different industries and Mr Camilleri said their respective experiences complement each other.
"We all wanted to do it together," he said, adding it was some light relief and a fun sideline business. We'd like to start up a shop one day and expand our product range." The "funbags" are available in four sizes starting from $180 for a single kid's size to $495 for a three person bag.
The products are available online. For more information visit http://www.funbag.com.au
