Fresh new business hits Warwick's streets

A NEWCOMER to the Warwick small business scene is an enterprising venture from former truck driver and part-time Santa Claus, Nick Minchell.

Mr Minchell, who now works in sales at the Rocklea Markets in Brisbane during the week, has used his knowledge and contacts to form his own market stall, Nick's Mobile Fruit and Veg Barn.

Saturday was the first outing for the venture as Mr Minchell and family set up shop at the Uber Markets in Leslie Park.

"We hit on the idea about a month ago,” Mr Minchell said.

"Just before Christmas, and it's taken about a month to get it all together.

"I work closely with a lot of growers, so the contacts were there, I just had to organise the logistics and how we'd go about it all.”

With fresh fruit and veg on offer and tasty samples of Bowen mangoes and watermelon for visitors to his stall, Mr Minchell was kept busy talking potential customers through his range of produce.

"We've (had) 14 lines of product here (on Saturday) from potatoes to cherries,” he said.

"All top quality, Queensland-grown produce.

"I've been really happy with the support and response as well.”

Mr Minchell said his background in markets had made the decision easy for him.

"I worked at the Brisbane markets for 10 years before heading to South Australia to drive trucks for seven years,” he said.

"It's always been a passion for me, and getting back into it recently I saw a possible market for the produce here in Warwick.

"I'm not really interested in having a shopfront; I'm much more interested in getting out and about around the Southern Downs and meeting and talking to people.

"We might even set up a roadside stall at some point and look to get to markets all around the region as well.

"And hopefully the pig and calf sale on Wednesdays.”

Mr Minchell said anyone interested should follow the business on Facebook.

"That's where you'll see all the info about us, what we do and where we plan to be,” he said.

"If anybody wants anything specific, let me know and we'll try and organise it for you.

"We're more than happy to provide for jam makers, schools and pubs, and clubs if we can.

"Whoever is in the market for some top-notch fruit and veg.”
