YOUNG thespians, young thespians, wherefor art thou, young thespians?

That's the question (or close enough) that Ballina District Community Services Association is asking.

BDCSA is holding a free three-day acting workshop for local youth aged 12-18 next week and is looking for young actors interested in honing their skills and having a bit of fun.

The workshop will be at the Youth Centre on Swift St. Ballina and youth case manager at BDCSA, Jordan Stotter said it will give youth a new opportunity.

"This is a real chance for anyone who wants to hang out in a low pressure atmosphere and come and do a bit of acting, play some games and generally just have fun," Mr Stotter said.

The days will revolve around theatre games and some small group work on plays written by teens for teens, he explained.

"I have chosen comedies that relate, hopefully. But mostly I want anyone who would like to come to just understand you can get as involved as you like.

"It is more about learning a little, but just doing what you feel."

"It is about experience and not pressure in any way."

Mr Stotter, an actor, said he was very excited about the workshops.

He has performed in productions at Ballina Players and the RSL including playing Buddy Holly in the Buddy Holly Show, Tom Springfield in Dusty Springfield and Mr Markham in the sitcom Move Over Mrs Markham.

"When I started theatre it was actually to try and write a play, but I ended up on the stage and really loved it and I guess I want to share this with anyone who also may just be surprised how much fun theatre can actually be," he said.

Acting workshop

The Acting Group begins on Monday and runs until Wednesday 10am-3pm.
