THE Northern Rivers carpooling program launched last year has been expanded to encourage people travelling to events to share a ride.

The free Northern Rivers Carpool online service - created by an alliance of seven local governments including Tweed Shire Council - has introduced an events feature to make it easy for people to share a ride to conferences, regional meetings, music festivals or any other organised event.

Tweed Shire Council's sustainability officer Dan Walton said the new feature enabled organisers to register events in minutes.

The site also provides advice on how to promote travel options for people attending festivals and conferences.
