Foursome ready for tough 100km hiking trail fundraiser
IT'S going to be a huge mental and physical challenge for Vicky Bambrick and her four friends, but tackling a 100km trail for Oxfam is something the Yeppoon woman says she's ready for.
"I feel very lucky to be fit and healthy and wanted to do something worthwhile that would help people but also give me a challenge as well," Vicky told the Capricorn Coast Mirror last week.
"It's going to be tough, but definitely worth it.
"I've always wanted to do something like this to give back."
Oxfam Trailwalker is a challenging event that changes lives, as a global movement fighting poverty and injustice.
The Oxfam Trailwalker Brisbane, to be held from June 17 to 19, sees teams walking 100km or 60km through the beautiful D'Aguilar National Park.
Joining Vicky on her quest are local ladies Emma Bygrave, Bree McDonald and Brenda Tooth who all met and became friends at Yeppoon's JumpStart Fitness.
"Tracey King is our support person on the trail who I've known for years and is living in Brisbane now," Vicky said.
"But we all felt the same about this and have the same goals in wanting to help a good cause.
"Tracey is a marathon runner and will be our lifeline, bringing in food, extra water, band aids and her knowledge on endurance."
Hoping to raise a minimum of $2000, the ladies have already reached over $790 in their fundraising attempts.
"JumpStart have been really great helping us raise $390," Vicky said.
"We're hoping to hold a trivia night next month too."
Known as the JS Chasers team, each has a strong love for fitness in different forms.
Vicky, is an open ocean kayaker who never gives up, Brenda, an avid runner on the comeback from injury, Emma the all-rounder who loves a challenge, and Bree is the team's water baby who is at home in the ocean.
"Oxfam is not just a physical challenge, it's also a rewarding fundraising challenge with teams raising funds to support people living in poverty around the world," Vicky said.
