Foord named best player in Asia

SYDNEY FC star Caitlin Foord has completed a remarkable double after being named the AFC Player of the Year as the best footballer in Asia.

Foord is just the second player to win both the senior award and the AFC Women's Youth Player of the Year title, which she won in 2011.

"I wasn't expecting this,” she said at the awards in Abu Dhabi.

"It's obviously a massive achievement. Looking back at the young player award, I was so young and just took the award. I didn't really expect it, or think too much of it.

"Now when I look back, I'm privileged to have done so well and I will do the same when I look back on this trophy and combine the two.”

Foord's Matildas teammate Lisa De Vanna and China's Tan Ruyin were the other two nominees for the award.
