Foley not for gay marriage

JUST hours after news hit the web that a motion calling on the Federal Government to support same-sex marriage had been passed at the ALP’S state conference, Maryborough MP Chris Foley took to his Facebook page to voice his opposition.

“As both a Member of Parliament and a Minister of Religion, I am completely opposed to this notion of same-sex marriage and will not support it in any way, shape or form,” he said.

“I hope there is still a shred of morals and values left with the Federal MPs to make the right decision.”

Comments on Mr Foley’s page varied.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has repeatedly been quoted as saying that she believes marriage is “between a man and a woman”.

Last year Queensland Premier Anna Bligh came out in support of same-sex marriage.

The motion passed yesterday was reportedly backed by high-profile ALP members including Treasurer Andrew Fraser and Community Services Minister Karen Struthers.
