Flat surf offers little help

LAST weekend in Perth we raced round four of the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series in extremely hot conditions, with no assistance from the flat surf.

It was the longest race of the series, lasting more than two hours, and it was the endurance specialist Caine Eckstein who took the honours.

He finished about three minutes ahead of Ali Day and Shannon Eckstein.

I managed to come away with a fourth place which I was pretty pleased with and it was a nice improvement on the previous three rounds.

The race included 6km of running, in close to 40 degree heat, and took us past a nudist beach which gave us all a bit of a laugh and helped forget about the pain we were going through for a few seconds.

Ali Day now leads the series and is in the box seat with two rounds remaining at Coolum and then Noosa.

Alyce Bennett could only manage a 20th placing after her third the week before.

She had a bit of an off day and unfortunately didn't have the race she was hoping for.

We have this weekend off to freshen up and get ready for the sprint format for round five the following week.

Hopefully, I can get up on the podium for the last two races.
