Flashback to an Olympian

AS A handful of Central Queensland athletes prepare to compete at the London Olympics, which start in 37 days, we look back at one of Rockhampton's former Olympians.

Today's Blast from the Past features former Rockhampton rower Wayne Diplock, who represented Australia in the Rowing Men's Coxed Eights at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games - it was the final time the winter and summer Olympics were held in the same year.

At the age of 24 Wayne teamed up alongside Peter Murphy, Jaime Fernandez, Ben Dodwell, Sam Patten, Bo Hanson, Robert Scott and David Colvin, and they placed fifth overall with a time of 5:33.72.

Wayne is still heavily involved with Australian rowing and is currently a senior co-ordinator and high-performance development officer for the U23 Australian squad and is based in Canberra.

If you know the name of any Rockhampton-born former Olympians, please call the newsroom on 4930 4283.
