Fitzy's owners to unveil classic-style Fortitude Valley pub

THE Fitzgibbon Group, owners of The Glen Hotel in Eight Mile Plains and Fitzy's in Toowoomba, is planning to unveil a classic-style Fortitude Valley pub on the former site of Fringe Bar and Kerbside on Ann St next month.

The venue will be called the Osbourne Hotel and the name is a nod to the original, which once occupied the site.

In the 1970s, The Osbourne was known for being the home of the notorious Painters and Dockers Union.

Venue manager Jason Hirt says Kerbside's former home is being turned into a leafy beer garden and bistro area, with a glass roof and capacity for up to 400 patrons.

Overall capacity will be about 800.

"The bar scene has gone to smaller boutique bars, and we think there's an opening for a larger offering with a beer garden," says Hirt.

The first storey will house function areas and a private dining room.

Hirt said guests could expect classic pub food, from pizzas to Cape Grim steaks. A chef is yet to be signed.
