Fishing minister confident of sustainable future

MINISTER for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Joe Ludwig has instilled his confidence in the sustainability of our fishing industry.

He was in Mackay today to launch the Status of key Australian fish stocks reports which provides an important summary of the sustainability of the country's fish stocks.

"Fishing is a big part of Australian culture and an important local industry for many communities around our coastline," Minister Ludwig said.

"These reports show that consumers can be confident that locally-caught seafood comes from fisheries that effectively manage the sustainability of the wild fish stock."

The only two fish species in the red zone are Southern Bluefin Tuna and School Shark.

The report can be found at fish.gov.au.
