Fireys rush to forest fire on busy Coast road

FIREFIGHTERS are at the scene of a forest fire off a busy Coast road.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said fireys were called about 1.30pm to reports of a small area fire on Steve Irwin Way, Beerburrum.

She said four crews were at the scene and were conducting back burning to stop the fire from spreading. Three crews have since left and the fire is now under the control of the Rural Fire Service.

While the fire was behind a commercial property, the QFES spokeswoman said there was no concern to nearby buildings. She said there was a small amount of smoke but it wasn't deemed a hazard.

A QFES spokesman said the Glasshouse Rural Fire Brigade was undertaking backburning and the fire was under control.
