Huge inferno lights up sky near famous Melbourne site
A SPECTACULAR fire lit up the night sky in Cremorne overnight near Melbourne's famous Nylex clock site.
More than 60 firefighters battled the huge blaze at an abandoned factory on Gough St from 12am with local residents urged to stay inside.
MFB spokesman Ian Morris said firefighters arrived on the scene in less than six minutes and used aerial appliances to reduce the suspicious blaze.
The fire was declared under control at 2:05am.

The Nylex Clock sign was illuminated by the flames.
Victoria Police said no one was in the building at the time.
"The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be established, however police are treating it as suspicious," police spokeswoman Natalie Butler said.

This is not the first time the site has been engulfed in flames this year.
Road closures are expected to remain in place for coming days at the Punt Rd on-ramp to CityLink while works are undertaken to repair the structure.
Gough St will remain closed until further notice.
