New event? Finnish coach caught knitting at Winter Games
KNITTING in the Winter Olympics.
It seems like a no brainer - the click-clacking of the needles while sitting next to the fireplace as the temperature plummets outside - but the much-loved pastime seemed unable to find a place amongst the speed skating, snowboarding and bobsledding.

That was until head coach of Finland's snowboarders, Antti Koskien, was caught knitting away at the top the run in Pyeongchang.
The picture quickly went viral on social media and suddenly, knitting was the gold medal event of the 2018 Games.

However, the Finnish team are heavy favourites, with the whole team chipping in to help knit a blanket for the child of Finnish president, Sauli Niinisto, who was born February 2.
They also have previous experience in the discipline - knitting a scarf for their summer Olympian counterparts in 2014.
"Everyone is knitting a little square, and then we will join them together" Koskinen told The Guardian.
"It is a nice, Finnish thing."
Surely the Aussies can follow the Finnish team's lead and give them a run for their money?
